Union City Football at Monroe Central

HS-Football-Team
Union City Indians football made the short trip across Randolph County to visit the Monroe Central Bears on Friday Aug 30, 2019. Monroe Central entered the game ranked number 5 in 1A polls. Union City entered the game 1-0 coming off their victory over Tri High the week before. The game started out in good fashion for the Indians. The Indians started on offense and ended up with the drive stalling out. That is when Ryan Armantrout entered the game to punt for the Indians. He punted the ball 63 yards and pinned the Bears inside the 5-yard line. After stopping the Bears and receiving the ball back the Indians offense stalled and they were never able to get it started again. At the half the score was 29-0. The Indians came out of the half and were able to compete better but still only able to score once near the end of the game. The final score was 36 to 7. The Indians had a few bright spots. Ryan Armantrout had a great night punting the football. He punted 6 times for an average of 38 yards a punt. Nic Wells led the Indians on defense with 10 tackles for the night. The Indians are back in action again next Friday for their home opener versus the visiting Hagerstown Tigers. This will be Military Appreciation night at Union City Jr/Sr High School. All past and present Military Veterans will be admitted into the game for free and be recognized at half time for their service. The Indians will be wearing special uniforms for the night. Kickoff is 7 PM.

Coaches Quote: “ The kids responded well to adversity tonight. The Bears are a very solid and well-coached football team. When we got down our players did not quit and they were able to keep their composure and finish the game. We will bounce back from this and we will learn from this.”
