7th Grade Lady Indians are Runner-ups in the County Tourney

7th Grade Lady Indians are Runner-ups in the County Tourney
Union City played host for the JH County Tourney on Saturday. The Lady Indians started their day off by facing Driver in the semifinal. In a tightly contested game the Lady Indians were able to pull away in the 4th quarter for a 22-18 victory. A balanced scoring attack was the key to victory with Gabby Ordonez and Becca Overleese scoring 7 & 6. Oaklee Reichard and Emma Blankley chipped in with 4 & 3. Ava Jefferis added two HUGE free throws in the 4th quarter. Blankley and Overleese led the way on the glass with 7 & 6 rebounds.

The Lady Indians faced off against a much larger Monroe Central team for the title. Both teams gave the fans theirs money’s worth in this one. UC faced the Bears a week ago and were defeated by 21. Saturday was a much different game but ultimately the result was the same with a 41-34 Monroe Central victory. The score doesn’t reflect how close this game was as UC was forced to foul at the end. Most of the scoring was handled by the guards as the UC front court had to contend with a 6 footer. UC was led by Oaklee Reichard and Gabby Ordonez with 16 & 15 points including huge 3 pointers in the second half from both. Anevicia Ramos added three and was a monster on the glass with 8 boards. Emma Blankley added 5 rebounds. The Lady Indians end their season with a 13-5 record.
Coach Overleese had this to say about his team. "Each player improved tremendously throughout the year and played with heart and courage. This is a team to be proud of."
