Written by Clinton Randall of Bluebag Media---UNION CITY, Ind. – The Union City volleyball program hosted their annual Volley for the Cure – ‘pink out’ match against Winchester Thursday evening. In recognition of breast cancer awareness, the UC volleyball teams, fans and the high school gym were littered with the color pink.uc-fans
The Lady Indians found themselves in a five-set Tri-Eastern Conference battle with the visiting Lady Falcons. Winchester claimed the first game 25-20, but Union City corrected some early errors to take set two by a score of 25-21.

Winchester dominated in game three, beating the struggling UC 25-12, and taking momentum into what could be the winning set for WHS. The Lady Indians were able to fend off the Lady Falcons in the fourth game and get the 25-17 win and take the match into the fifth and deciding set. Union City set the game tempo early in set five, taking a big lead early. They finished off the Lady Falcons with a 15-10 deciding set victory to win the conference match by a final score of 3-2.

“We are super proud of how hard both team fought tonight. It was definitely exciting to watch,” said UC Head Coach Nancy Whitted. “They worked well together and recovered quickly from errors. I think our girls were just so pumped most of the match and ready to win. Great job ladies!”

uc pinkLeading the way for the Lady Indians of Union City were juniors Maci Beam, with nine kills, and Jazmin Kelsey, who had four aces in the win. Topping the stats for the senior Lady Indians were Peyton Dean, with 12 digs, and Katie Rismiller to set up 28 assists for her teammates.

The Lady Indians junior varsity team were also victorious in their match against Winchester, winning in two sets (25-18 and 25-24).
