Indians playoff run comes to end against Bears
It was a cold and wet night as both teams struggled to move the ball in the first half. The Indian defense held its own to keep the Bears out of the end zone and hold on to a scoreless game at the half.
Monroe Central came out of the locker room and quickly found their offensive rhythm in the third quarter. Union City was unable to get anything going on offensively, turning the ball over three times in the second half.
Though the final score of 29-0 was not what the Indians wanted to see, this was the first sectional title bid for the UC varsity football program since 1998, which made for a successful season overall.
“This season was a lot of fun! How the guys played with effort and physicality made for a lot of great games and enjoyable season,” UC head coach Mike Thompson told The Early Bird. “We are disappointed in some of the games we let slip away and in our play during the second half tonight, but proud of how we carried ourselves this season and the positive strides we took as a team.”
“Our seniors have really grown and have been tremendous leaders on the field and will be missed next season,” concluded Coach Thompson.
