Lady Indians hold final practice before championship game
Written by Clinton Randall of Bluebag Media---INDIANAPOLIS – In preparation for tomorrow’s IHSAA state championship, the Union City girls basketball team held their final practice today at Lawrence Central High School near Indianapolis.

The #8 ranked Lady Indians will faceoff against the top-ranked Lady Trojans of Wood Memorial for the IHSAA 1A state championship at 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

This is not only Union City’s first appearance in the state finals, but is the first girls basketball program out of Randolph County to ever make it this far in IHSAA tournament history. This will be Wood Memorial’s second state championship game, finishing runner-up in 2007.

Player wise, both squads are pretty evenly matched…starting four seniors and one junior.

As for the coaches, Wood Memorial head coach Jonnie Bartely is in his 19 season with the team, with an overall record of 233-231. UC head coach Sarah Black holds an 85-51 record in her sixth year with the Lady Indians.
