Union City defeats Blue River to reach the Sectional Finals
Game was close all night at the end of the first quarter Indians were up 12-7, but Blue River battled back in the second and our boys went to the locker room down at the half by a score of 18-26. Third quarter the Indians started the climb out of the hole that they got into in the 2nd quarter and was down 41-44 at the end of the third quarter. At the 3 minute mark of the 4th Indians called a timeout and was still down by a 4 but they had the ball. The Indians had a big run in them the last 3 minutes and with 16 seconds to go the game was all tied up 59-59. Both teams had changes to win the game in the last 16 seconds but neither team could get a shot to fall. Overtime period was all Union City by getting a quick lead and hitting just enough free throws they won by 5 with a final in overtime 72-67. Indians had very balance scoring for the game. Bryten Stewart lead all scorers with 18. John Carpenter came off the bench to score 14, Mason Good and Zerrin Cantu both had 13. Akili Roberts was a beast inside against a much bigger team and finished with 8 points. Wes Mote playing hurt most of the night had 4 points and Gavin Teeter rounded out the scoring with 2 points.
The Indians will attempt to win the first boys basketball sectional championship in 35 years as they battle Randolph County rival Randolph Southern tonight. Game time is 7:30 PM at Tri High School. Doors open at 6:30 tickets at the door $6.00. We need everyone to support the boys and Coach Davison. Be there loud and proud!!!!!!
