UNION CITY INDIANS RUNNER-UP IN 3rd ANNUAL DYLAN WILLIAMS TOURNEY
The first game of the tourney saw the Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks taking on the Delaware Christian Academy Knights. MV won the first game, moving on to the championship game.
The Indians took on the Ansonia Tigers in game two. Union City had their bats working for this matchup, putting up 15 hits. The Indians were led by Nic Wells, (Fr), and Trevor Spence, (Jr). Each putting up 3 hits on the day, with Wells adding 3 RBI's. Jacob W. Moore, (Jr), Cam Luster, (So), and Jacob Fulk, (Jr), each added 2 hits for UC.
Spence picked up the win for UC, going 3 innings and not allowing a run. Wells picked up the save for the Indians. Union City won game two, 16-8.
Ansonia played in the consolation game, and defeated the Knights to take 3rd place.
So the championship game was set with cross-town rivals, the Union City Indians taking on the Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks. After a back and forth game, MV held on for the the win, 5-3.
"This was a tough loss for our Indians," said Coach Bill Bradbury. "Our guys really look forward to our invitational, and defensively we didn't play our best. We were able to out hit MV, 10-5, but after putting up 6 errors, we couldn't come out on top."
Union City was led at the plate by Spence and Luster, who each put up 3 hits in the game. Dawson Thornburg, (Jr), added 2 hits, while Zach Bradbury, (Jr), and Gabe Loesch, (Jr), both added one.
Fulk started on the hill for UC, going 4 innings, giving up 2 hits and 2 runs. Spence came on in relief and ended up getting the loss for the Indians, going 3 innings, giving up 5 hits and 2 earned runs.
Spence, Luster, and Wells were all named to the all tourney team.
