Indians Win Semi-Final Against Blue River Valley. Move On To Sectional Championship
Despite seeing its six-run lead whittled down by the end, Union City still held off Blue River Valley for a 6-5 victory on Saturday.
An early lead helped propel the Indians to victory. Union City took the lead on a single in the first inning.
The Indians captured the lead in the first inning. Zach Bradbury, (Jr), singled to start the game. Trevor Spence, (Jr), drove in Bradbury when he singled in the first inning.
Union City scored three runs in the fifth inning. The Indians big inning was driven by a walk and a single by Nic Wells, (Fr).
Spence earned the win for the Indians. He tossed six and a third innings, giving up five runs, five hits, and striking out seven. Spence didn't relinquish a hit until the sixth inning. Wells recorded the last two outs to earn the save for Union City.
Union City collected nine hits. Spence, Wells, and Cameron Luster, (So), each collected multiple hits for the Indians Varsity. Gabe Loesch, (Jr), went 1-for-4 at the plate as he led the team with two runs batted in.
The Indians will face off against the Tigers from Hagerstown on Monday, at 5pm, for the sectional championship.
