INDIANS DEFEAT THE FALCONS IN A NAIL-BITER
The Falcons had the bats going early, jumping out to a 7 - 0 lead after 3 innings. However, Union City did not give in and quit. The Indians tied things up after the top half of the 5th, just to give the lead back to Winchester in the bottom half, as WC went back ahead 10 - 7. Union City struck again in the top of the 6th inning, putting up four more runs and taking the lead for good, 11 - 10.
"It was great to see our guys were unwilling to give up," said UC Coach Bill Bradbury. "They were willing to scratch and claw their way back into the game. They showed a ton of heart."
Trevor Spence, (Sr), started for UC, but couldn't quiet the Falcons bats. Union City was not only dealing with some hot bats from WC during the first 2 innings, but they were also dealing with several defensive miscues. Senior fireballer, Jacob Fulk came on in relief of Spence and kept the Indians in the ball game. Fulk pitched 3 1/3 innings, picking up the win for UC. Fulk gave up 5 hits and struck out 3 batters. Nic Wells, (So), came on to finish out the game for UC, picking up a save. Wells pitched 2 innings, and did not allow a run on 2 hits.
The Indians had 13 hits on the night, led by Seniors Zach Bradbury and Trevor Spence, who each had 3 hits and 2 RBI's. Fulk, Cam Luster, (Jr), and Nic Wells each added 2 hits for UC. Luster, Fulk, and Gabe Loesch, (Sr), each knocked in 2 runs for UC. Keaton Collins, (Sr), also added a hit for the Indians.
The Indians overall record moves to 2 - 1 - 1, and 2 - 0 in the conference. Union City will travel to Monroe Central to face the Golden Bears on Tuesday.
